Montana - May 2020

Finally, on May 22, 2020, we arrived in Montana, our journey was uneventful, and after growing up in Washington State, I could see many similarities. The landscape was green, the weather was still cool, and as time went on during our visit, we saw a lot of rain.

The campground that we stayed in, Mountain Meadow RV Park and Campground, was in Hungry Horse, MT. It allowed us accessibility to Glacier National Park, Whitefish, Kalispell, and Flathead Lake. Many of the places we visited and explored.

This campground was very “woodsy,” as I would describe it, with trees everywhere. However, it did feel like the camping that I did when I was a kid. Memorial Day weekend, we made an authentic “American” camping dinner. We had roasted hotdogs, potato salad, and corn on the cob. After dinner, we enjoyed some smores and then ended the evening with a torrential downpour. Now that is the part that made me think we were back in Washington.

One day on our sightseeing adventures, we enjoyed Flathead Lake. This lake is not only huge, but it is also beautiful. It’s a lake that I would have a cabin on to enjoy in the summer weather. We had lunch at a cute little restaurant enjoying the serene water views, and after lunch, we drove around the entire lake.

Another day we took a hike near Hungry Horse Damn and enjoyed a lovely lunch in Whitefish. Whitefish is a charming, quaint town that I would have loved to explore more if it weren’t for the darn pandemic.

While in Montana, we patiently waited for Glacier National Park to open, and as we were waiting, we took a drive from the West Entrance to the East Entrance. I would have to say the West Entrance was much more scenic. When we visited the National Park area, it was a cool rainy day. We did not do any hiking. We took the pictures as we drove around and snapped them from the roadside or made a small excursion down a trail.

Montana was beautiful, and I do want to go back.  Their summers are a very narrow window as there can be snow as late as June. Once summer hits in Montana, the weather is lovely.

We enjoyed the opportunities Montana brought us, we did have a sad day that brought me many tears. We said goodbye to our Reilly Jane. She was the sweetest dog that brought us so much joy. We woke up and started the day like any other. As the day progressed there were signs that she was getting worse. Losing a pet is never easy. We put her to rest on June 13, 2020, in Kalispell, Montana. This was a day that I will never forget.
